Q

Quadrant Four

The mode of operation in which a drive is driven in reverse while being braked; commonly expressed as reverse rotation with forward torque

Quadrant One

The mode of operation in which a drive is driven forward without being braked; commonly expressed as forward rotation with forward torque

Quadrant Three

The mode of operation in which a drive is driven in reverse without being braked; commonly expressed as reverse rotation with reverse torque

Quadrant Two

The mode of operation in which a drive is driven forward while being braked; commonly expressed as forward rotation with reverse torque

Quadrature

A format for the output of encoders and resolvers in which signal channels are offset by 90 degrees in order to indicate the direction of shaft rotation.

Quadrupole

Quadrupole is a distribution of four equal monopoles, or two equal dipoles.

Qualitative test

A pass-fail test based on an individual's ability to detect the presence of a test agent while wearing a respirator.

Quality

Operationally, the excellence or superiority of a product, as judged by customers.

Quality Record

Any document that is generated from information in a quality manual or procedure.

Quality assurance (QA)

All actions taken to ensure that standards and procedures are adhered to and that project deliverables meet requirements.

Quantitative test

A test that provides a ratio that compares the concentration of contaminants outside of a respirator's facepiece to the concentration of contaminants inside the facepiece.

Quarter Wave Damped

Loop response characterized by a series of overshoots, each of which has an amplitude equal to one quarter the amplitude of the previous overshoot

Quartz

The second most abundant mineral, with a crystal structure of continuous SiO4 silicon-oxygen tetrahedra, giving an overall chemical formula of SiO2.

Quartz Crystal Pressure Gauge

A quartz crystal gauge is a dual-mode, thickness-shear, quartz pressure sensor that is used in oilfield services, with high accuracy, resolution, and fast response time.

Quasi-planar

Quasi-planar means having some characteristics of a planar system.

Question and Answer or Questioning [evidence]

Used to verify whether employees understand why they are doing something, as well being able to do it, including how to perform in unusual or unexpected situations. Can be written or oral.

Quick Disconnect Terminal

A crimp-on connector in which a male terminal is inserted into a female terminal to make the connection

Quiescent state

The state of a transistor when it is properly biased and the circuit is conducting without a signal applied.
