3D and 4D Seismic Processing, Interpretation and Visualization

This course describes the initial processing steps for a 3D survey. It identifies seven early processing parameter tests and the optimal location in the velocity analysis panel for velocity picks. How common midpoint gathers react in the presence of structural dip is explained. Three ways 3D migration improves the horizontal resolution of seismic data is discussed. Three principal time migration methods are presented. It lists five data displays that are used in 3D seismic interpretation. The course describes the capabilities of horizon flattening and horizonal slicing and explains how these are accomplished in 3D interpretation. The eight basic steps of interpreting three-dimensional seismic data are identified. The six displays that can be used to produce a consistent interpretation of 3D data are named. Why time seismic data is converted to depth data is explained. Three specialized techniques for interpreting complex 3D seismic are identified. How time-lapse monitoring is used to optimize reservoir production is summarized. The way modeling helps field operators to anticipate reservoir changes during production is explained. How color plays a critical role in the interpretation scheme is discussed. The course details three focusing strategies that remove excess data from the volume around the targeted interval.
