Subsurface Facies Analysis

This course lists the main terrigenous and carbonate sedimentary depositional settings. It defines lithofacies and explains how they are formed. Depositional sequences are described and how their boundaries are determined is covered. How dipmeter readings can assist with identifying sedimentary structures is specified. The modes of sediment deposition and how traction currents move sediment are explained. The three basic processes by which individual sediment grains come to rest on a depositional surface are identified. The different groups of foraminifera and how they relate to environmental conditions is addressed. The five types of common microfossils that have value as environmental indicators are defined.
