This topic explains the causes of low resistivity readings in finely laminated, hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone formations. In these rocks, there is often an interpretation challenge of only a small resistivity difference between the hydrocarbon-bearing and the water-bearing zones. The interpretation difficulties of low resistivity and low contrast laminated sandstones are detailed, together with state-of-the-art logging tools and interpretation techniques used to evaluate them effectively to distinguish pay from non-pay intervals.
