John Connor
John Connor’s career in training and development spans more than 40 years, from the U.S. Army Engineer School to his current role as Senior Competency Specialist in IHRDC’s Competency Management group. His association with IHRDC began in 1977 as a petroleum technology instructor for a group of trainees from Dubai Petroleum Company. Since then he has held a variety of positions, from Project Manager–Consulting Services to Quality Assurance Editor. In the late 1990s, he managed a 19-month World Bank-funded project to develop a comprehensive training system to support the oil industry in Kazakhsta in its transition to a free market economy. He is the author of five books and numerous articles on various training and management topics. Manpower Planning and Development: The Developing World, coauthored in 1982 with William Carson, laid the foundation for what evolved over the years into IHRDC’s Competency Management System. Mr. Connor holds the Certification in Workplace Assessment Using Direct and Indirect Methods SCQF Level 8 and the Certification in Internal Verification of Workplace Assessment SCQF Level 8 from the Scottish Qualifications Authority.
